Ordering food for a group is a skill nobody teaches you,

and it's harder than it looks.

Order too little, and people leave hungry,

which feels like you failed as a host. 搞得自己这个东道主特别失败;

Order too much, and you've wasted food and money,

and everyone feels a little guilty about the full plates left behind.

Then there's the balance.

Something for the person who doesn't eat meat,

something not too spicy, something everyone can share.

I used to find the whole thing stressful.

Now I just ask the table,

is there anything you don't eat, and let people help.

It turns out you don't have to read everyone's mind.

The secret to hosting well isn't guessing perfectly.

It's just caring enough to ask.
