It was a rainy day in March.
The snow had melted, but the cold rain had frozen into ice on the roads.
Up ahead, Dave saw a large truck and a car collide — a hard, terrible crash.
He was the first one there, so he pulled over to help.
There was blood on the windshield, and no one in the car was moving.
Dave dialed 911 right away.
But he did not pull the injured people out.
He knew that moving them could do even more harm.
So he stayed close and waited, and the ambulance arrived in under five minutes.
Sometimes helping means knowing what to do.
And sometimes it means knowing what not to do.
Dave's call helped save lives that day.
