Today Lin votes for the very first time, and she could not be more excited.

Back in Laos, where she used to live, she was never able to vote.

A woman named Jane Smith is running for the school board.

Lin has met her and talked with her, and she believes in Jane's plan.

She wants her to win.

At the school gym, Lin signs her name, takes her ballot,

steps into the booth,

and fills in the little oval next to Jane's name.

Then she drops her ballot into the sealed box,

and someone hands her a sticker

that reads, "I voted."

It is a small sticker, and a single vote.

But for Lin, it means she finally has a voice — and today, she used it.
