The boat drifted for hours, 小船随水漂了好几个小时，

until it came to rest beside a cottage in a cherry orchard. 最后停在了一片樱桃园里的小屋旁。

An old woman in a flowered sun hat pulled Gerda ashore. 一位戴着碎花遮阳帽的老太太把格尔达拉上了岸。

"You poor child," she said. “可怜的孩子，”她说，

"Come in, and have some cherries." “快进来吃点樱桃吧。”

As Gerda talked about Kay, 当格尔达聊起加伊时，

the old woman combed her hair with a golden comb, 老太太正用一把金梳子梳着她的头发，

and with every stroke, Gerda forgot a little more. 每梳一下，格尔达就多忘掉一些事情。

The old woman wasn't wicked; she was simply lonely, 老太太并不坏，她只是太孤单了，

"Is Kay dead?" “加伊死了吗？”

she asked the flowers. 她问那些花儿。

"He's out there somewhere." “他在外面的某个地方呢。”

Gerda ran. 格尔达拔腿就跑。

Outside the gate, it was already autumn. 而院门外面，早就已经是秋天了。
