In the farmyard, it was terrible. 在农场的日子简直太难过了。

The ducks bit him. 鸭子咬他。

The hens pecked him. 母鸡啄他。

Even his brothers and sisters said, 就连他的兄弟姐妹也说：

"We wish the cat would get you, you ugly thing." “真希望猫把你叼走，你这个丑八怪。”

And one day, his mother sighed, "I wish you'd never been born." 有一天，连妈妈也叹了口气说：“真希望你压根就没被生出来。”

That was the worst of all. 这才是最让人心碎的。

Cruel words from strangers sting, but from family, they cut much deeper. 外人的冷言冷语虽然伤人，但家人的话却扎得更深。

So he ran, and flew over the hedge. 于是他拼命跑，扑腾着翻过了树篱。

He reached a great marsh, 他逃到了一片大沼泽地，

and lay there all night, exhausted and miserable. 又累又委屈地在那儿躺了整整一晚。

In the morning, two wild geese swooped down. 到了早晨，两只大雁飞落下来。

"You're so ugly, we rather like you," they said. 它们说：“你长得可真丑，不过我们还挺喜欢你的。”

"Come with us!" “跟我们一起走吧！”

Then, BANG! 突然，砰！

BANG! 砰！

The geese fell dead into the reeds. 大雁中弹摔进了芦苇丛，当场没命了。

Hunters were everywhere. 到处都是猎人。

And a huge dog came splashing through the marsh, straight toward him. 一条大狗踩着泥水穿过沼泽，径直朝他扑了过来。
