A lion fell in love with a farmer's daughter and asked to marry her. 一只狮子爱上了农夫的女儿，跑去向她求婚。

Her parents were horrified. 女孩的父母吓坏了。

But how do you say no to a lion? 可谁敢跟一头狮子说不呢？

The father thought carefully. 当父亲的仔细琢磨了一番。

"We're honored," he said at last. “这是我们的荣幸，”他终于开口道。

"There's just one small problem. “只是还有个小问题。

Our daughter is gentle, and your claws and teeth frighten her. 我们闺女性子柔弱，您的爪子和尖牙实在把她吓坏了。

If you had them removed, we would happily say yes." 要是您能把它们都弄掉，我们一定高高兴兴地答应。”

The lion was so much in love that he agreed at once. 狮子爱得无可救药，一口就答应了。

He had his claws cut and his big teeth pulled out. 它剪掉了爪子，拔光了满嘴的大尖牙。

Then he came back, smiling a soft, 然后它跑了回来，脸上堆着温顺的、

toothless smile, to ask for his bride. 没牙的笑容，来接他的新娘。

The farmer looked at him and laughed. 农夫打量了它一眼，哈哈大笑。

He picked up a stick and chased the lion off his land. 他抄起一根棍子，把狮子赶出了自己的地盘。

Without his claws and teeth, 没了爪子和尖牙，

there was nothing left to be afraid of. 它就再也没什么可怕的了。
