A great war was about to begin between the birds and the beasts.

Both sides wanted the bat.

"Join us," said the birds.

"You have wings."

"Sorry," said the bat.

"I'm a beast.

Look at my fur."

Then the beasts came.

"Join us.

You have fur and teeth."

"Sorry," said the bat.

"I'm a bird.

Look at my wings."

His plan was simple: wait, watch, and join the winner.

But at the last minute, the two sides made peace,

and there was no war at all.

The bat flew over to celebrate with the birds.

They chased him away.

He went to the beasts.

They nearly tore him to pieces.

And that, people say,

is why bats only come out at night, alone.

If you refuse to take a side,

don't be surprised when no side takes you.
