It was a beautiful fall day. 这是一个美丽的秋日。

Bob was driving down the highway with his favorite song on the radio, 鲍勃正开着车在高速公路上行驶，收音机里放着他最喜欢的歌，

singing along, tapping the beat. 边跟着唱边打着节拍。

"What a great day!" “多么美好的一天啊！”

he thought. 他心想。

Then he saw flashing red lights in his mirror. 接着他看到后视镜里有闪烁的红灯。

A state trooper. 一名州警。

"So much for the great day," Bob thought. “美好的一天就这么完了，”鲍勃心想。

He pulled over onto the shoulder, turned off the radio, 他把车开到路边，关掉收音机，

rolled down his window, and waited in his car. 摇下车窗，在车里等着。

"Do you know how fast you were going?" “你知道你开多快吗？”

the trooper asked. 州警问道。

"I thought I was going the speed limit," Bob said. “我以为我开的是限速，”鲍勃说。

"I clocked you at sixty in a fifty zone." “我测到你在限速五十的区域开到了六十。”

Bob had been enjoying the drive so much that he never saw the sign. 鲍勃太享受驾驶了，以至于他根本没看到那个标志。

The trooper checked his license — and let him off with a warning. 州警检查了他的驾照——然后只是给了他一个警告就放他走了。

Bob breathed out and smiled. 鲍勃松了口气，笑了。
