A friend showed me a beautiful picture the other day, 前几天有个朋友给我看了一张很漂亮的画，

and then told me a machine made it in about ten seconds. 接着告诉我这其实是机器花十来秒生成的。

I felt two things at once. 我当时心里同时冒出了两种感觉：

Amazement, and a small, strange sadness. 既觉得惊艳，又有一种淡淡的、说不上来的失落。

It was genuinely lovely to look at. 那张画看着确实很美。

But something about it being made instantly, with no struggle, 但一想到它是瞬间做出来的，没经历过任何挣扎，

no years of practice, made it feel a little hollow to me. 也没有多年的苦练，我就总觉得它缺了点什么，有些空洞。

I've been chewing on why. 我一直在琢磨为什么会这样。

And I think, for me, 我想，对我来说，

art was never only about the final image. 艺术从来都不只是最终呈现出来的那张图。

It was about a human being trying to say something, 它关乎一个活生生的人想要表达些什么，

and the long, difficult journey of learning how. 以及为了学会如何表达所走过的漫长又艰辛的路。

The machine can copy the look of that. 机器能模仿出那个外在的样子，

But it skipped the part I actually care about. 但它偏偏跳过了我真正看重的那部分。

Maybe the effort was always half the point. 也许那些付出与努力，本来就占了一半的意义。
