King Maximilian was out walking when he realized he had left his book under a tree, 马克西米利安国王正在外面散步，突然想起自己把书落在了一棵树下，

a mile back. 就在一英里前走过的地方。

Nearby, a boy was looking after some geese. 不远处，一个小男孩正在放鹅。

"Fetch my book, “帮我把书拿回来，

and I'll give you a gold coin," said the king. 我就给你一枚金币，”国王说。

"I can't leave my geese," said the boy. “我可不能丢下我的鹅不管，”男孩说。

"I'll watch them." “我替你看着。”

The boy laughed. 男孩笑了起来。

"You? “你？

Can you even crack a whip?" 你连鞭子都不会甩吧？”

The king tried, and couldn't. 国王试了试，果然不行。

So the boy gave him a quick lesson and ran off. 于是男孩简单教了他两下，就跑去找书了。

The geese noticed immediately. 鹅群立刻就察觉到了不对劲。

They ran, screaming, straight into a vegetable garden. 它们嘎嘎叫着，一路狂奔直接冲进了菜园子里。

The king ran after them, waving the whip, and achieved nothing. 国王跟在后面挥着鞭子追，结果一点用也没有。

The boy came back with the book. 男孩拿着书回来了。

"Just as I thought. “我就知道会这样。

I found your book, and you lost my geese." 我把你的书找回来了，你却把我的鹅给弄丢了。”

"I'm sorry," said the king. “真对不起，”国王说，

"I'm a king. “我是个国王，

I'm not used to this work." 干不来这种粗活。”

"A king? “国王？

I'm not that stupid," said the boy. 我才没那么好骗呢，”男孩说，

"You seem like a kind man. “你看起来倒像是个好心人，

But you'll never make a good goose boy." 但你这辈子都当不好放鹅娃。”
