Socrates was one of the wisest men in ancient Greece.

Young people came from all over the country just to hear him talk.

He asked them questions, and he made them think.

He wasn't rich, and he didn't want to be.

One summer, he built himself a house.

It was tiny.

His neighbors couldn't understand it.

"You're such a great man," they said.

"Everyone in Athens knows your name.

Why would you build such a little box to live in?"

Socrates looked at his small house and smiled.

"You may be right," he said.

"It isn't much.

But small as it is, 但地方再小,

I'll consider myself lucky if I can fill it with true friends."

That's the whole story.

But it's worth a moment of thought.

Most of us would like a bigger home.

Not many of us could fill even a small one with real friends.
