Two pots were left on the bank of a river.
One was made of strong brass,
and the other was made of clay.
When the river rose,
both of them were carried away by the water.
The clay pot tried hard to stay away from the brass one.
"Don't be afraid," called the brass pot.
"Stay close to me.
I'll protect you.
I won't hit you."
"I know you don't mean to," said the clay pot.
"But that isn't the problem.
If I hit you, I break.
If you hit me, I break.
Whatever happens, I'm the one who ends up in pieces.
So thank you, but I'll keep my distance."
And it floated off on its own.
It's fine to have powerful friends.
But when things get rough,
it's the weaker one who usually pays the price.
