Beside the River Dee, 在迪河边上,

there lived a miller who was the happiest man in England. 住着一个磨坊工,他是全英格兰最快乐的人。

He worked from morning till night, and he sang the whole time. 他从早忙到晚,嘴里一直哼着歌。

"I envy nobody, and nobody envies me." “我不羡慕任何人,也没人羡慕我。”

The king heard about him and came to visit. 国王听说了他的事,便亲自前来看他。

"You're wrong, my friend," said the king. “朋友,你这话可说错了,”国王说。

"Somebody does envy you. “其实有人可羡慕你了。

I do. 我就很羡慕你。

I have a crown and a kingdom, and I worry every day. 我头戴王冠、坐拥江山,却每天都在发愁。

What's your secret?" 你到底有什么秘诀?”

The miller smiled. 磨坊工笑了笑。

"No secret, sir. “哪有什么秘诀啊,先生。

I earn my own bread. 我靠自己的双手挣饭吃。

I love my wife and children, and they love me. 我爱我的妻子和孩子,他们也爱着我。

I have good friends, and I don't owe anyone a penny. 我有几个好朋友,而且不欠任何人一分钱。

The river turns my mill, and the mill feeds my family. 河水带动磨坊转,磨坊养活一家人。

Why wouldn't I be happy?" 我怎么会不快乐呢?”

"Stay exactly where you are," he said. “你就好好保持现在的样子吧,”他说。

"Your dusty cap is worth more than my golden crown." “你那顶落满灰尘的帽子,比我的金王冠还要值钱。”

And he walked away, still the king, and still not singing. 说完他转身离开,依旧是那个国王,也依旧唱不出歌来。
