The people of Gotham heard that the king was coming to visit. 高谭镇的人听说国王要来巡视。

That was bad news. 这可真是个坏消息。

They would have to feed the king and all his men, 他们不仅得招待国王和他所有的手下，

and he took whatever he liked. 而且国王看上什么就会拿走什么。

So they cut down trees and blocked every road into town. 于是他们砍倒树木，把进镇子的路全给堵死了。

The king was furious. 国王气坏了。

"Send soldiers," he said, "and punish them." “派兵过去，”他说，“好好惩罚他们。”

Now Gotham had a new problem. 这下高谭镇有了新的大麻烦。

Then one old man had an idea. 这时，一位老人想出了个主意。

"Nobody ever punishes a fool. “从来没人会去惩罚傻子。

When the soldiers arrived, they saw men rolling stones up a hill, 士兵们赶到时，看到有人正把石头往山上滚，

"to help the sun rise." 说是“为了帮太阳升起来”。

Others were building a wall around a bird, 还有人在一只鸟周围砌墙，

"to stop it from flying away." 说是“为了不让它飞走”。

One man was carrying his front door on his back, 有个人把自家的大门背在背上，

"so thieves can't break it open." 说是“这样小偷就没法破门而入了”。

The soldiers shook their heads and rode home. 士兵们直摇头，骑着马回去了。

"Leave them alone," they told the king. “算了吧，别理他们了，”他们对国王说。

"The whole town is mad." “整个镇子的人全疯了。”
