A deer had lost one of her eyes,

so she couldn't see anyone coming from that side.

To stay safe, she found a clever solution.

She always ate on a high cliff beside the sea.

She kept her good eye turned toward the land,

where the hunters and dogs came from.

Her blind side faced the water.

After all, what danger could ever come from the sea?

For a long time, the plan worked perfectly.

Then one day, 可有一天,

some hunters heard about the one-eyed deer on the cliff.

They didn't come through the forest.

They borrowed a boat, sailed quietly under the cliff,

and shot her from the water.

As she fell, she thought, "I watched the land so carefully.

And all the time, the danger was on the side I trusted."

Trouble often comes from the direction we never think to check.
