One freezing winter night, a traveler got lost in the forest. 一个寒冷的冬夜,一位旅人在森林里迷了路。
A strange creature, half man and half goat, 一个半人半羊的奇怪生物,
found him and kindly offered him a bed. 发现了他,并好心地收留他留宿。
As they walked, the man kept blowing on his fingers. 走在路上时,那个男人一直对着手指哈气。
"Why are you doing that?" “你为什么要这么做?”
the creature asked. 那个生物问道。
"My hands are cold. “我手很冷。
My breath warms them up." 哈口气能把手暖一暖。”
"Interesting," said the creature. “有意思,”那个生物说。
At home, he gave his guest a bowl of hot soup. 到了家,他给客人端来了一碗热汤。
The man lifted the spoon and blew on it. 男人端起勺子吹了吹气。
"And now why are you blowing?" “那你现在怎么又在吹?”
"The soup is too hot. “这汤太烫了。
My breath cools it down." 吹吹气能让它凉下来。”
The creature stood up and opened the door. 那个生物站起身,打开了大门。
"I'm sorry, but you have to leave. “不好意思,你得离开了。
I can't trust someone who blows hot and cold with the same breath." 我没法信任一个同一张嘴里既能吹热气又能吹冷气的人。”
It sounds unfair. 这听起来可能有点不近人情。
