A fox was telling a cat how clever he was. 一只狐狸正在跟一只猫炫耀自己有多聪明。
"I know a hundred ways to escape from my enemies," he said. 他说:“我知道一百种从敌人手里逃脱的办法。”
"A hundred! “一百种!
How many do you know?" 你知道几种?”
"Only one," said the cat. 猫说:“就一种。”
"But it usually works." “不过通常挺管用的。”
"One? “就一种?
How sad," said the fox. 真可怜,”狐狸说。
Just then, they heard hunting dogs coming toward them, barking loudly. 就在这时,他们听见猎狗汪汪大叫着朝他们冲了过来。
The cat ran straight up the nearest tree and sat on a high branch. 猫直接蹿上了最近的一棵树,蹲在高高的树枝上。
"This is my one way," she called down. 她朝下面喊道:“这就是我唯一的办法。”
