The hares were tired of being afraid. 野兔们受够了提心吊胆的日子。

Everybody hunted them: dogs, eagles, people. 谁都想抓它们：猎狗、老鹰，还有人类。

They jumped at every little noise. 哪怕是一点点风吹草动，都能把它们吓一跳。

"This is no way to live," one of them said. “这日子真没法过了，”其中一只说。

"We are the weakest, most frightened animals in the world." “我们是世界上最弱小、最胆小的动物。”

Just then, they heard horses coming. 就在这时，它们听到了马蹄声逼近。

As usual, they ran. 像往常一样，它们拔腿就跑。

They ran all the way to the edge of a lake. 它们一路狂奔，逃到了一个湖边。

And there, a group of frogs heard them coming. 就在那儿，一群青蛙听到了它们跑来的动静。

The frogs were terrified, 青蛙们吓坏了，

and they jumped into the water as fast as they could. 拼了命地往水里跳。

The hares stopped and stared. 野兔们停下了脚步，看愣了。

"Did you see that?" “你看到了吗？”

said one. 一只野兔说。

"They're afraid of us. “它们居然怕我们。

Of us!" 怕我们耶！”

They walked home feeling a little taller that day. 那天回家的时候，它们感觉自己腰杆都挺直了不少。
