A dog was walking home with a big piece of meat in his mouth. 一只狗嘴里叼着一大块肉，正往家走。

He felt very lucky. 它觉得自己运气好极了。

On the way, 在路上，

he had to cross a small bridge over a river. 它要经过河上的一座小桥。

He looked down, and he saw another dog in the water. 它低头一看，发现水里也有一只狗。

That dog had a piece of meat too, 那只狗嘴里同样叼着一块肉，

and it looked even bigger than his. 而且看着比自己的还要大。

"I want that one as well," he thought. “那块我也想要，”它心里琢磨着。

He opened his mouth to grab it. 于是它张开嘴就去抢。

Splash! 扑通一声！

His own meat fell into the river and was gone. 它自己的肉掉进了河里，转眼就没了。

Of course, there was no other dog. 其实哪有什么别的狗，

It was just his own reflection. 那不过是它自己的倒影罢了。

He walked home hungry that night. 那天晚上，它只能饿着肚子回家。
