Lesson 91 Three Men in a Basket A pilot noticed a balloon 第91课 篮子里有三个人 一个飞行员发现了一个气球

which seemed to be making for a Royal Air Force station nearby. 那气球好像正朝附近的皇家空军基地飞去

He informed the station at once, 他立刻通知了基地

but no one there was able to explain the mystery. 但基地里没人能解释这个怪事

The officer in the control tower was very angry when he heard the news, 控制塔的军官听到这消息后火冒三丈

because balloons can be a great danger to aircraft. 因为气球对飞机来说可是个大麻烦

He said that someone might be spying on the station 他说可能有人在偷窥基地

and the pilot was ordered to keep track of the strange object. 于是命令飞行员盯紧那个奇怪的东西

The pilot managed to circle the balloon for some time. 飞行员绕着气球飞了好一阵子

He could make out three men in a basket under it 他看到气球下面的篮子里有三个人

and one of them was holding a pair of binoculars. 其中一个人还拿着望远镜

When the balloon was over the station, 当气球飞到基地上空时

the pilot saw one of the men taking photographs. 飞行员看到有个人在拍照

Soon afterwards, 没过多久

the balloon began to descend and it landed near an airfield. 气球开始下降，最后落在一个机场附近

The police were called in, 警察被叫来了

but they could not arrest anyone, 但他们谁也抓不了

for the basket contained two members of Parliament 因为篮子里有两位国会议员

and the commanding officer of the station. 还有基地的指挥官
