You can make hot chocolate in a microwave. 热巧克力其实可以用微波炉做。

I did it that way for years. 我以前好多年都是这么弄的。

This winter, I started making it properly. 但今年冬天，我开始正儿八经地煮了。

A small pot. 一口小锅。

Real milk. 纯牛奶。

A piece of dark chocolate, broken into squares. 还有一块掰成小方块的黑巧。

You can't walk away from it. 这过程中你人走不开。

If you do, the milk burns on the bottom. 要是走开了，牛奶底子就会糊掉。

So you stand at the stove, and you stir. 所以你就得守在灶台前，一下一下地搅着。

At first, nothing happens. 刚开始，什么动静也没有。

Then the edges go soft. 接着，巧克力的边缘慢慢化开了。

Then there are dark ribbons in the white milk, 然后，白色的牛奶里泛起一道道黑色的丝缎，

turning as you turn the spoon. 顺着你手里的勺子一圈圈打转。

And then, all at once, it's one color, thick and shining. 再然后，突然之间，整锅奶融成了一种颜色，又浓又亮。

Ten minutes, standing in my socks, doing one thing. 十分钟，我就穿着袜子站在那儿，专心做着这一件事。

Outside, it was snowing. 窗外下着雪。

I poured it into my biggest cup 我把它倒进我最大的那个杯子里，

and drank it by the window. 坐在窗边慢慢喝着。

The microwave is faster. 微波炉确实更快。

But I wasn't in a hurry to be finished. 但我又不急着喝完。
