When we checked in, I looked around the room for the television. 办理入住的时候,我在房间里找了一圈电视。
There wasn't one. 结果一台也没有。
Just a bed, a rocking chair, and one window. 只有一张床、一把摇椅,还有一扇窗户。
"No TV?" “没电视吗?”
I asked the owner. 我问房东。
She smiled. 她笑了笑。
"There's the window." “那不就是窗户嘛。”
After dinner, there was nothing to do. 吃完晚饭后,无事可做。
So I sat in the rocking chair and looked out. 于是我坐进摇椅,望着窗外。
A field. 一片田野。
A fence. 一道栅栏。
Two horses, standing very still. 两匹马,一动不动地站着。
Behind them, the sky was doing something slow and orange. 在它们身后,天空正缓缓变幻着橘红色的晚霞。
I rocked. 我轻轻摇着椅子。
The chair made a small creak, back and forth. 椅子前后摇晃,发出细微的吱呀声。
I watched the entire sunset, from the first color to the last. 我完整地看完了整场日落,从最初的色彩一直看到最后一抹余晖。
I can't remember ever doing that. 我不记得自己以前是否也这样看过。
Then it was dark, 天色暗了下来,
and I had no idea what to do with myself. 我一时不知道该干些什么好。
So at nine o'clock, like a farmer, I went to bed. 于是到了九点,我就像个农夫一样,上床睡觉了。
I slept ten hours. 我睡了整整十个小时。
I didn't dream. 一个梦也没做。
The window had better programs than I expected. 这扇窗户放的“节目”,比我想象的还要精彩。
