I got so into decluttering at one point

that I took it too far.

I threw out things I actually loved,

chasing some perfect, empty, magazine-photo home.

My rooms became bare and a little cold,

and I felt strangely proud of how little I owned,

as if less was always automatically better.

But one evening I reached for a book I'd given away,

wanting to reread a favorite passage, and it was just gone.

That's when I understood.

Minimalism was never supposed to be a competition to own the least.

The point was never emptiness for its own sake.

It was to make room for what you love,

not to get rid of it.

Now I keep what genuinely adds something to my life,

and let the rest go.

A home should feel like you, not like a showroom.
