Every friend group has one person who is always late,
and in mine, that person is well known for it.
We tell them dinner is at seven,
knowing perfectly well they'll wander in at seven-thirty,
full of apologies, blaming traffic that somehow only ever affects them.
For a while it really annoyed me.
It felt disrespectful, like their time mattered more than ours.
But I've mostly made peace with it.
Some people just move through life on their own clock,
and it's not going to change.
So now we either tell them an earlier time,
or we just order an appetizer and enjoy ourselves until they arrive.
Getting angry every time only ruined my own evening.
Sometimes accepting people as they are is easier
than waiting for them to change.
