洗衣

The laundry basket is overflowing, so it's time to deal with it. 脏衣篮都堆得冒尖了，该洗洗了。

First I sort everything into piles — lights, darks, 先把衣服分分类——浅色的、深色的，

and the delicate stuff that can't take a hot wash. 还有经不起热水洗的娇贵衣服。

I load the machine, pour in the detergent, 把衣服塞进洗衣机，倒上洗衣液，

and add a capful of softener so everything comes out smelling fresh. 再加一瓶盖柔顺剂，这样洗出来闻着特别清香。

I check the pockets first — 洗之前得先掏掏口袋——

I've ruined a tissue in there more than once. 我可不止一次把纸巾忘在里面搅得稀烂了。

Then I pick the cycle, press start, 然后选好洗涤模式，按下启动键，

and listen to it fill up and start to spin. 听着水慢慢注满、滚筒开始转动。

There's something oddly relaxing about laundry day: 洗衣服这事儿有种莫名让人放松的感觉：

the hum of the machine, the warm smell, 洗衣机的嗡嗡声，暖烘烘的气味，

a whole chore that mostly does itself while you get on with your life. 整个家务基本都不用自己动手，你该干嘛干嘛就行。

Forty minutes later I'll move it to the dryer, but for now, 过四十分钟再去扔烘干机，不过眼下嘛，

one load down, and the basket finally has some room in it. 洗上了一锅，脏衣篮也终于空出点地方了。
