She was not amused. 她可没觉得好笑。

Jeremy Hampton has a large circle of friends and is very popular at parties. 杰里米·汉普顿朋友很多，在聚会上特别受欢迎。

Everybody admires him for his great sense of humour. 大家都佩服他特别有幽默感。

Everybody, that is, 不过，所有人

except his six-year-old daughter Jenny. 除了他六岁的女儿珍妮。

Recently, 最近，

one of Jeremy's closest friends asked him to make a speech at a wedding reception. 杰里米一个铁哥们儿请他在婚礼上致辞。

This is the sort of thing that Jeremy loves. 这正是杰里米爱干的事儿。

He prepared the speech carefully and went to the wedding with Jenny. 他精心准备了致辞，带着珍妮去了婚礼。

He had included a large number of funny stories in the speech 他在致辞里塞了一大堆搞笑故事，

and of course it was a great success. 当然，效果特别好。

As soon as he had finished, 他一讲完，

Jenny told him she wanted to go home. 珍妮就说想回家。

Jeremy was a little disappointed by this, 杰里米有点小失落，

but he did as his daughter asked. 但还是听了女儿的话。

On the way home, 回家的路上，

he asked Jenny if she had enjoyed the speech. 他问珍妮喜不喜欢他的致辞。
