Napoleon stood before the animals with important news.

Comrades, he said, we are going to build the windmill.

The animals were amazed.

The windmill? 风车?

But Napoleon had always said the windmill was foolish.

He had made water all over the plans.

Squealer quickly explained.

You are confused, comrades, he said with a smile.

The windmill was Napoleon's own idea from the very start.

Snowball stole the plans from him.

That is the truth.

Some animals frowned.

They seemed to remember it differently,

but they were not sure because their memories felt cloudy and Squealer sounded so certain.

Napoleon only pretended to be against the windmill, Squealer went on.

It was a clever trick to get rid of Snowball, the traitor.

Ah, said the animals, “啊,”动物们说,

how clever Napoleon is.

And so a lie became the truth, simply because it was said with confidence.

The animals felt proud again.

They would build the great windmill after all.

It would be hard, but the future would be bright.

No one guessed just how heavy the work would be.
