I read about an exercise. 我看到过这么一个小练习。

Pick one small thing, and look at it for a full minute. 挑一件小东西，目不转睛地看上一整分钟。

It sounded too easy to be worth doing. 听起来太简单了，感觉根本没必要做。

There's a plant on my windowsill. 我的窗台上摆着一盆植物。

I've watered it for three years. 我都给它浇了三年水了。

I set a timer, and looked at one leaf. 我定了个闹钟，盯住其中的一片叶子。

Ten seconds. 十秒过去了。

It's a leaf. 就是片叶子嘛。

Green. 绿色的。

I'm done. 我看不出什么了。

Twenty seconds. 二十秒。

It isn't one green. 其实它不只是一种绿。

It's darker near the middle, and almost yellow at the tip. 中间颜色深一些，叶尖几乎都发黄了。

Thirty. 三十秒。

There are lines running through it, 上面有一道道脉络，

like rivers on a map, and smaller lines between those. 就像地图上的河流，中间还穿插着更细的纹路。

Forty. 四十秒。

There's a tiny hole near the edge. 边缘有个很小的洞。

The light is coming through it. 光线穿透了叶子。

It's glowing, a little. 它在发光，隐隐约约的。

The timer rang, and I was honestly sorry. 闹钟响了，我心里竟然真的觉得有点可惜。

Three years on my windowsill, and I had never once seen it. 放在我窗台上整整三年，我却从来没有真正看过它一眼。
