Somewhere along the way, 不知不觉中，

I forgot that you're allowed to learn 我忘了人其实可以

something for no reason at all. 毫无理由地去学点东西。

As an adult, everything I learned had to be useful. 长大后，我学的每样东西都必须得有用。

A skill for my job, something to put on a resume, 要么是工作技能，要么能写进简历，

an investment that would pay off. 必须是一笔能带来回报的投资。

Learning became just another form of work. 学习变成了另一种形式的工作。

So last winter, I started learning to identify birds, 所以去年冬天，我开始学着认鸟，

and it's completely pointless. 这事儿真的一点用都没有。

It won't advance my career or make me any money. 它不会让我的事业更进一步，也不能帮我赚钱。

But every morning walk has become a small adventure, 但现在每天早上的散步，都变成了一场小小的冒险，

full of tiny things I never used to notice. 到处都是我以前从未留意过的小细节。

And I've remembered something I'd lost since childhood. 我也找回了自童年起就弄丢了的东西。

Learning doesn't have to lead anywhere to be worth it. 学习不一定非要有结果才算值得。

Curiosity is a good enough reason on its own. 单凭好奇心，就已经是足够充分的理由了。

Some of the best things we ever learn 我们学到过的那些最美好的东西，

were never supposed to be useful at all. 本来就压根不是为了派上用场的。
