I bought myself flowers last week, and it felt surprisingly good.
For a long time I thought flowers
were something you only got as a gift,
something you waited for someone else to give you.
But I was at the market,
I saw a bunch I liked, and I thought, why not.
They cost about six dollars.
They sat on my kitchen table all week,
and every time I walked past them, they made me smile.
It made me realize how often I wait for other
people to do the nice small things for me.
But I don't have to wait.
I can be the person who does that for myself.
It's not sad, and it's not lonely.
It's just kind.
A six-dollar bunch of flowers taught me 一束六块钱的花让我明白,
I'm allowed to be on my own list too.
