真正的勇敢

A group of boys were daring each other to walk across a frozen pond that everyone knew was thin in the middle. 一群男孩子互相较劲，看谁敢走过结冰的池塘，大家都心知肚明池塘中间的冰层很薄。

One by one, they teased the boy who hung back. 他们开始轮番嘲弄那个不敢上前的男孩。

"Come on, are you scared? “来啊，你怂了？

Don't be such a coward." 别当个胆小鬼嘛。”

He stood there, cheeks burning, 他站在那儿，脸颊发烫，

wanting more than anything to prove them wrong. 恨不得立刻证明给他们看。

But he'd seen the cracks near the center, 可他分明看到了池塘中央附近的裂痕，

and he knew how it could end. 也清楚这么做会有什么下场。

"No," he said. “我不去，”他说，

"I'm not doing it, and neither should you." “我不会去，你们也别去。”

They laughed and called him names as he walked away. 他转身走开时，他们在背后哄笑，嘴里还骂着难听的话。

Two of them went out anyway — and the ice gave way, 可还是有两个人大着胆子踩了上去——结果冰面瞬间塌了，

and they had to be dragged out, soaked and shaking. 最后两人被硬拽了上来，浑身湿透，抖个不停。

Everyone remembered who the real coward was that day. 那天，所有人都记住了到底谁才是真正的胆小鬼。

It wasn't the boy who walked away. 绝不是那个转身离开的男孩。

Real courage isn't never being afraid. 真正的勇敢并不是从不害怕，

It's doing the right thing even when they're all laughing at you. 而是在所有人都嘲笑你的时候，依然坚持做对的事。
