Once upon a time, a wicked demon made a very special mirror. 从前，有个恶魔做了一面很特别的镜子。

Anything good or beautiful reflected in it shrank to almost nothing, 任何美好善良的东西只要照进镜子里，都会缩得几乎看不见，

while anything ugly grew huge. 而丑陋的东西却会变得奇大无比。

The loveliest landscapes looked like boiled spinach, 最美的风景照出来就像煮烂的菠菜，

and the kindest people looked hideous. 最善良的人看起来也变得面目可憎。

The demon's students carried it all over the world, laughing, 恶魔的学生们大笑着带着它走遍全世界，

until there wasn't a person or place it hadn't twisted. 直到世上再也没有一个人、一个地方没被它扭曲过。

Then they tried to fly up to heaven itself, 接着，他们甚至想飞上天堂，

to mock the angels. 去嘲笑天使。

But the higher they flew, the more the mirror shook, 可他们飞得越高，镜子就抖得越厉害，

until it slipped from their hands and shattered into billions of pieces. 最后镜子脱手掉落，摔成了成亿上万的碎片。

Some were no bigger than a grain of sand, 有的碎片还没一粒沙子大，

and they blew all over the world. 随风飘散到了世界各地。

If one got into your eye, 要是有哪一片掉进了你的眼睛，

you saw only what was wrong with everything. 你看什么就都只能看到糟糕的一面。

The most dangerous lies aren't the ones we're told; 最危险的谎言不是别人说给我们听的；

they're the ones that change how we see. 而是那些彻底改变了我们看世界方式的谎言。

And if a splinter got into your heart, 要是有一块碎片扎进了你的心脏，

that heart slowly turned to ice. 那颗心就会慢慢冻成冰块。
