But what did he see in the clear water below? 可是，他在清澈的水里看到了什么呢？

And he was no longer a clumsy, 他再也不是那只笨拙、

dark gray bird, ugly and awkward. 又丑又怪的深灰色鸟儿了。

He was a swan! 他是一只天鹅！

It doesn't matter if you're born in a duck yard, 就算出生在鸭圈里也没关系，

if you've hatched from a swan's egg. 只要你是从天鹅蛋里孵出来的。

The great swans swam around him and stroked his neck with their beaks. 大天鹅们围着他游，用嘴轻轻抚摸着他的脖子。

Some children came to throw bread into the water. 几个孩子跑过来往水里扔面包。

"Look, there's a new one!" “看啊，来了一只新的！”

cried the youngest. 最小的孩子喊道。

"And he's the most beautiful of all!" “而且他是所有天鹅里最漂亮的！”

The old swans bowed their heads before him. 老天鹅们在他面前低下了头。

He felt shy, and tucked his head under his wing. 他感到很害羞，把头藏到了翅膀底下。

He was very happy, but not at all proud, 他心里非常高兴，但一点儿也不骄傲，

for a good heart never becomes proud. 因为一颗善良的心是永远不会骄傲自大的。

He lifted his slender neck, 他昂起修长的脖子，

and cried from the bottom of his heart, 发自内心地喊道：

"I never dreamed of so much happiness when I was the ugly duckling." “当我还是一只丑小鸭的时候，做梦也没想到能有这么幸福。”
