This morning I was supposed to be working. 今天早上我本来该干活的。

I had a list. 我都列好清单了。

But the sun came in through the kitchen window, low and yellow, 但阳光从厨房窗户照了进来，低低的、黄澄澄的，

and it went straight through the plant on the sill. 正好穿透了窗台上的那盆绿植。

The leaves lit up, bright green, like small lamps. 叶子一下子亮了起来，翠绿翠绿的，像一盏盏小灯。

And on the floor, right by my feet, there was a shadow. 就在我脚边的地板上，映出了一片影子。

A perfect picture of the plant, 简直就是那盆植物的完美画像，

every leaf, lying on the wooden boards. 每一片叶子，都清晰地拓在木地板上。

Then a little wind came through the window. 接着，一阵微风从窗外吹了进来。

The leaves moved. 叶子晃动了。

And the shadow moved too, slowly, like something breathing. 影子也跟着动了起来，缓缓地，像是在呼吸一样。

I watched it. 我就这么看着它。

I didn't think about anything. 脑子里什么都没想。

Then a cloud came, and the shadow disappeared, 后来飘来一片云，影子就消失了，

as if someone had turned off a film. 就像有人关掉了放映机一样。

I went back to my list. 我又回去看我的任务清单。

Nothing had changed. 什么都没变。

But I'd had ten minutes with no thoughts in them. 但我却拥有了整整十分钟放空的时间。

That's rarer than gold. 这可比金子还要难得。
