I once survived an entire hour of near-total silence on a date.
We'd matched online, where the conversation had flowed easily for days.
But in person, something just died.
We sat there, both of us clearly panicking inside,
offering up desperate little questions that led nowhere.
So, you like music?
Yes.
Long pause.
It was excruciating.
But it taught me something real about chemistry.
It isn't something you can arrange in advance or talk yourself into.
Two people can look perfect on paper, share every interest,
and still sit across a table with absolutely nothing sparking between them.
There's no formula for it.
And there's a strange comfort in that.
It means when a conversation does flow effortlessly,
it's genuinely special, not something anyone could manufacture.
