奥比达的一天

A young traveler named Obidah set out at dawn, 有个叫奥比达的年轻旅人，天刚亮就出发了，

full of energy, on the road across the plain. 他干劲满满，踏上了穿过平原的大道。

He was determined to reach the next town by nightfall. 他下定决心，天黑前一定要赶到下一个镇子。

As the morning grew hotter, 随着天气越来越热，

he noticed a shady path running alongside the main road, 他注意到大路旁边有条阴凉的小道，

lined with trees and flowers. 两边绿树成荫，开满了花。

It seemed to head the same way, so he took it. 看着方向似乎差不多，他就转了过去。

Soon it curved a little. 没走多远，小路稍微拐了个弯。

Then a little more. 接着又偏了一点。

There was a stream to rest by, fruit to pick, 路边有小溪可以歇脚，有野果可以摘，

a pleasant hill to climb for the view. 还有景色不错的小山丘可以登高远眺。

Each detour felt harmless, 每次偏离大路，感觉都没什么大碍，

and each time he told himself he'd get back on track in a minute. 他每次也都在心里跟自己说，歇一会儿马上就回大路上。

By late afternoon, the path had wandered deep into a forest, 可到了傍晚，小路不知不觉把他引到了森林深处，

the sky had clouded over, 天上布满了乌云，

and he had no idea where the main road was. 他彻底搞不清大路在哪儿了。

Then the storm broke. 接着，暴风雨砸了下来。

Soaked and frightened, 他浑身湿透，吓得够呛，

he stumbled through the dark until at last he saw a light: 在黑暗中跌跌撞撞地走着，终于看到了一点光亮：

a hermit's hut. 那是一位隐士的茅屋。

The old man listened to his story and nodded. 老人听完他的经历，点了点头。

"That's how most lives go wrong," he said. “大多数人的人生就是这么走偏的，”他说，

"Not in one great leap, “往往不是一步迈入大错，

but one pleasant little detour at a time." 而是一次又一次贪图惬意的小小拐弯。”

We rarely set out to get lost. 我们很少有人一开始就打算迷路，

We just keep choosing the shade. 我们只是总忍不住一次次走向阴凉处罢了。
