Oliver Goldsmith was a famous Irish writer. 奥利弗·戈德史密斯是爱尔兰著名的作家。

He had also studied to be a doctor, 他以前还学过医，

so people called him Doctor Goldsmith. 所以大家都管他叫戈德史密斯医生。

He gave away so much that he was always poor himself. 他经常接济别人，以至于自己总是身无分文。

One day, a woman begged him to visit her husband. 有一天，一个女人恳求他去看看她的丈夫。

"He's ill," she said, "and he can't eat." 她说：“他病了，什么都吃不下。”
