Getting a toddler ready in the morning is a full workout. 早上给小家伙收拾出门，简直比高强度健身还累。

I wrestle his arms into a shirt, tug his trousers up, 我得跟他较着劲把小手塞进上衣，再使劲提上裤子，

and zip his jacket right to the top while he squirms to get away. 趁着他扭来扭去想逃跑，赶紧把外套拉链拉到顶。

His nose is running, 他鼻涕流出来了，

so I catch him and wipe it with a tissue — 我一把逮住他，拿纸巾擦干净——

he hates that part. 他最讨厌这个环节了。

At the sink, I lift him onto the step stool, 到了洗手池边，我把他抱上垫脚凳，

help him lather up his hands, 帮他的小手搓满肥皂泡，

and count to twenty while we scrub. 一边搓洗一边数到二十。

He wants to do everything himself, 他什么都想自己来，

so I let him try the zipper and his shoes, 所以我就让他自己试着拉拉链、穿鞋子，

even though we're already running late. 哪怕我们其实眼看就要迟到了。

Half of parenting is just this patience — 当爸妈这事儿，有一半全凭这点耐心——

letting them fumble because that's how they learn. 由着他们笨手笨脚地摸索，因为这样才能学会。

Finally dressed, hair sort of brushed, 总算是穿戴整齐了，头发也算胡乱梳了梳，

one shoe on the wrong foot, we call it good enough. 有一只鞋虽然穿反了，但管他呢，差不多得了。

I grab his little backpack, and out the door we go. 我拎起他的小书包，出发，出门喽！
