I'm the first one up in my house. 家里我是起得最早的一个。

I just like the kitchen at six. 我就是喜欢六点钟的厨房。

I fill the kettle and switch it on. 我把水壶接满水，按下了开关。

And then, for about three minutes, 接下来的大概三分钟里，

there is nothing for me to do. 我什么事也不用做。

At first, silence. 一开始，是一片寂静。

Then a low hum, 接着是一声低沉的嗡嗡声，

so soft you feel it more than hear it. 很轻微，比起听到，你更能感觉到它的存在。

The sound climbs and thickens, 声音渐渐变大、变密集，

until the whole kettle is rumbling, and then, click. 直到整个水壶都咕嘟咕嘟地响起来，然后，“啪”的一声跳了闸。

Quiet again. 又安静了下来。

I don't check my phone during those minutes. 在这几分钟里，我不会看手机。

I stand at the window with an empty cup. 我就手里拿着个空杯子，站在窗边。
