Thunder and lightning. 电闪雷鸣。

On a bleak Scottish heath, three witches chanted in the storm. 在苏格兰一片荒凉的荒原上，三个女巫正在暴风雨中念着咒语。

"Fair is foul, and foul is fair." “美即是丑，丑即是美。”

Nearby, two generals were riding home from battle: 不远处，两位将军刚打完仗正骑马往回赶：

Macbeth and his friend Banquo. 正是麦克白和他的好友班柯。

Suddenly the witches rose out of the mist. 突然，女巫们从迷雾中现身了。

"All hail, Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor!" “向你致敬，麦克白，考特爵士！”

said one. 其中一个女巫喊道。

"All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!" “向你致敬，麦克白，未来的国王！”

said another. 另一个接着喊道。

Macbeth stared. 麦克白愣愣地看着她们。

To Banquo, they said, 女巫们又转头对班柯说：

"You will not be king, but your children will." “你成不了国王，但你的子孙会成为国王。”

And they vanished. 说完，她们就凭空消失了。

Moments later, a messenger arrived. 没过多久，一名信使赶到了。

The king had just named Macbeth the new Thane of Cawdor. 国王刚刚册封麦克白为新的考特爵士。

The first prophecy had come true. 第一个预言应验了。

So what about the second? 那第二个呢？

A single word can plant a seed that grows into a forest. 有时仅仅一句话，就能种下一颗日后长成森林的种子。

And in Macbeth's mind, the seed had already taken root. 而在麦克白的心里，这颗种子已经悄悄生根发芽了。
