The coach door opened, and a harsh voice barked in German. 马车门开了，有人用刺耳的德语粗暴地吼了一声。

A Prussian officer stood in the light of the inn doorway: tall, 旅馆门口的灯光下站着一名普鲁士军官：身材高大，

thin, and fair-haired, 瘦削，留着一头金发，

squeezed into his uniform like a girl in a corset. 军装紧紧裹在身上，活像穿了束身衣的年轻姑娘。

He checked their papers coldly, one by one, and left. 他神情冷漠地挨个查验了他们的证件，随后便离开了。

They ate supper and went to bed exhausted. 大家吃完晚饭，精疲力竭地倒头就睡。

But the next morning, when they came down ready to leave, 可第二天早上，当他们下楼准备出发时，

So, reluctantly, she went upstairs. 无奈之下，她只好心不甘情不愿地上楼去了。
