Once, there was a king with a daughter named Fiora.

She was so beautiful that everyone believed she must be good as well.

They were wrong.

In secret, Princess Fiora practiced dark magic.

She had learned it from an old witch who lived alone on a mountain.

It was the witch's magic that made her so beautiful,

and in return, Fiora kept the witch's secrets.

One day, the king made an announcement.

"I have no son," he said.

"It's time for my daughter to marry.

Her husband will be king after me."

The palace celebrated.

Only Fiora did not.

A husband would be close to her, day and night.

Sooner or later, he would discover her secret,

and she would lose her magic and her beauty.

That night, when the palace was asleep,

she quietly opened her bedroom window.
