There is a mountain of paperwork on my desk,
so I get organized.
I gather the loose sheets,
tap them into a neat stack, and staple the corners together.
For the pages that go in the binder,
I line them up in the hole-punch and press down with a satisfying crunch.
I trim a crooked edge with scissors,
and stick a label on the front of each folder so I can find things later.
A few documents need signing, so I sign,
date, and set them aside to be scanned.
There is something oddly calming about paperwork done properly —
every sheet where it belongs, nothing lost.
In a world that has mostly gone digital,
there is still something reassuring about paper you can hold.
Stapled, labelled, filed —
I clear the last sheet and enjoy the rare sight of an empty desk.
