It's feeding time, and my pet is already circling my feet, 又到了开饭时间，我家小家伙已经在脚边打转了，

meowing like she hasn't eaten in a week. 喵喵叫得好像饿了整整一个星期似的。

I rinse out her bowl, scoop in the right amount of kibble, 我冲了冲她的碗，舀进分量刚好的粮，

and set it down — 刚要放下来——

she dives in before it even touches the floor. 碗还没碰到地，她就一头扎进去狼吞虎咽起来。

I refill her water dish with fresh water and give the mat underneath a quick wipe, 我给她换上新鲜的水，顺便把底下的垫子随手擦了擦，

since she's a messy eater. 毕竟她吃起东西来总是弄得一团糟。

Once a month or so, 差不多一个月一次，

it's bath time, which neither of us enjoys. 到了该洗澡的时候，这事儿我俩谁都不乐意。

I wet her down, work in a little pet shampoo, rinse thoroughly, 我先把她浑身打湿，搓上点宠物沐浴露，彻底冲洗干净，

and wrap her in a towel to dry, 然后用毛巾把她裹起来擦干，

while she plots her revenge. 而她的小脑瓜里估计正盘算着怎么报复我呢。

Looking after another creature keeps you honest — 照顾另一个小生命能让人不敢懈怠——

they depend on you completely, 它们的一切都全依赖着你，

and they never let you forget a meal. 而且也绝不会让你漏掉任何一顿饭。

Bowl full, water fresh, she's happy again, and honestly, so am I. 饭满水清，她又心满意足了，说实话，我也是。
