The answer is the difference between two words, gross and net. 答案是这两个词之间的区别， 即“毛”和“净”。

Gross income is what you earn before anything is taken out, 毛收入是你赚到的钱， 在扣除任何东西之前，

Ben's $600. Net income, or take-home pay, is what's left after deductions. 也就是本的600美元。 净收入，或者说实得工资， 是扣除各种费用后剩下的钱。

That smaller number is what you actually get to spend. 那个较小的数字才是你实际能花的钱。
