Lily is learning English, and she practices by speaking it with her husband at home. 莉莉正在学英语，她通过在家和丈夫说英语来练习。

Every morning, she makes his lunch to take to work. 每天早上，她都会给他做午饭带去上班。

One morning, she asked what he wanted. 有一天早上，她问他想吃什么。

I'd like an apple and a sandwich, he said. 他说：“我想要一个苹果和一个三明治。”

But Lily heard an apple sandwich. 但莉莉听成了“苹果三明治”。

She thought it was a strange request, but maybe, she reasoned, Americans liked apple sandwiches. 她觉得这个要求很奇怪，但她想，也许美国人喜欢吃苹果三明治。

So she spread mayonnaise on a slice of bread, 于是她在一片面包上涂了蛋黄酱，

layered on thin apple slices, 铺上薄薄的苹果片，
