The animals wanted to hear more. 动物们想听更多。

Old Major smiled. 老麦哲笑了。

In my dream, he said, I saw the farm without man. 他说，在我的梦里，我看到了一个没有人类的农场。

The fields were green. 田野是绿色的。

The animals were happy and free. 动物们快乐而自由。

Then he taught them some simple rules. 然后他教了它们一些简单的规则。

Remember this, he said. 他说，记住这一点。

All animals are friends. 所有动物都是朋友。

Man is the enemy. 人类是敌人。

No animal must ever act like man. 任何动物都绝不能像人类一样行事。

Do not sleep in beds. 不要睡在床上。

Do not drink alcohol. 不要喝酒。

Do not chill another animal. 不要伤害其他动物。

We are all equal. 我们都是平等的。

The animals nodded. 动物们点了点头。

These words felt right. 这些话让它们觉得很对。

And never forget, Major added, 麦哲补充道，永远不要忘记，

whatever has four legs is a friend. 凡是有四条腿的都是朋友。

Whatever has two legs is an enemy. 凡是有两条腿的都是敌人。

Then Old Major began to sing. 然后老麦哲开始唱歌。

It was an old song from his dream, called Beasts of England. 那是一首来自他梦中的老歌，名叫《英格兰之兽》。
