钻石包裹惊变石头，侦探守候落空

Lesson 7. 第七课。

Too late. 太晚了。

The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning. 飞机晚点了，侦探们整个上午都在机场等着。

They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa. 他们正等着从南非运来的一包贵重钻石。

A few hours earlier, 几个小时前，

someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds. 有人告诉警方，小偷会试图偷走这些钻石。

When the plane arrived, 飞机到达时，

some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building, 一些侦探在主楼里面等着，

while others were waiting on the airfield. 而另一些则在停机坪上等着。

Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the customs house. 两个人把包裹从飞机上拿下来，搬进了海关大楼。

While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, 两个侦探在门口守着，

two others opened the parcel. 另外两个打开了包裹。

To their surprise, 让他们惊讶的是，

the precious parcel was full of stones and sand. 那个珍贵的包裹里装满了石头和沙子。
