Kim loves the holidays, and loves giving gifts.
But last year, she got an unwelcome "gift" of her own — from her bank.
She overspent, and three times her account dipped below zero.
Each time, the bank charged her an overdraft fee of thirty-five dollars.
An overdraft happens when you spend more than you actually have in your
account — with a check, a card, an ATM,
or an automatic payment.
The bank may cover it 银行可能会垫付,
and charge you a fee,
or bounce it and charge you a different fee.
Either way, it costs you.
So this year, Kim changed her habits.
She writes down every payment
as she makes it, 每次付款时都记下,
checks her balance often on her phone,
and reviews her statement each month.
Now she always knows exactly how much is really there.
The best gifts she will give this season are the ones she carefully chose.
But the "gift" she is proudest of 但她最引以为傲的“礼物”,
is the one she is no longer giving — 却是她不再送出的——
to her bank.
