Labor Day is an American holiday with a simple purpose: 劳动节是一个目的很简单的美国节日：

to say thank you to the people 感谢那些

who work. 工作的人们。

Everyone who labors — 每一个劳动者——

in an office or a factory, 无论是在办公室还是工厂，

at a company or at home — 无论是在公司还是在家——

is honored on this day. 在这一天都受到尊敬。

Some call it "the workingman's holiday." 有些人称之为“劳动者的节日”。

It is over a hundred years old. 它已经有一百多年的历史了。

The very first Labor Day, in 1882, 1882年的第一个劳动节，

saw more than ten thousand workers march through New York, 见证了一万多名工人穿过纽约游行，

then spend the day picnicking with their families. 然后与家人一起野餐度过了一天。

By 1894, it had become a national holiday, held on the first Monday in September. 到了1894年，它已经成为一个全国性节日，定在九月的第一个星期一。
